Watching Channel 10. The boss and coworkers of yesterday's shooter are in shock, saying theirs was a factory where Arab workers spoke Russian to the others and Russians spoke Arabic, and the shooter had driven Arab workers for years and was generally considered friendly towards them. His fellow residents in the West Bank settlement of Shvut Rachel actually try to excuse his revolting act ("you should understand, yada yada yada sucka sucka sucka Kach, he was driven to desperate act").
By the shooter's own admission, was an attempt to derail Disengagement by provoking Pali revenge actions, so troops needed to be diverted. The response was typically Sharonesque, namely to step up the timetable of the remaining evacuations. On screen I see what looks like thousands of troops and special police forces surrounding both Neve Dekalim and Kfar Darom [UPDATE: I just hear the forces surrounding the relatively small settlement of Kfar Darom are brigade strength], preparing for forced evacuation within the next hour. According to the new timetable, nearly all the remaining evacuations are slated to be completed today: the isolated settlement of Netzarim made a deal to voluntarily leave on Monday.
Casualties among evacuating forces so far: one officer apparently had acid thrown in his face yesterday, another was stabbed.
